GE Washer Not Spinning Clothes Dry [6 Fixations]

In my personal opinion, if I ever come across wet clothes then I would probably freak out. Whether it is utensils or clothes, wet should never be considered as an option. I recently bought a GE top load washer and I was happy about my choice because everyone was talking about it. But after using it for 6 months, I started coming across issues regarding its spinning.

After using the internet for the research I found out that it is a commonly faced issue among users. But because I faced this issue for the first time, I panicked a lot. I started digging out information regarding its fix. In this article, I will be discussing that information with you all so you don’t have to face issues like I did.

Reasons why GE Washer Not Spinning Clothes Dry

Before digging into the fixes, it was important for me to list down its reasons first. So I prepared a list of reasons for your convenience as well. Make sure to go through them in order to understand the nature of the problem.

  • Clogged filters
  • Blocked drain hose
  • Unbalanced load
  • Faulty water level control switch
  • Faulty lid switch
  • Damaged spin belt
  • Faulty motor control board
  • Damaged clutch
  • Faulty rotor position sensor
  • Bad drive motor

While preparing the list, I came to the realization that the issues are divided into two categories; major and minor issues. Minor issues don’t involve very much technical knowledge whereas when it comes to major issues, you have to be skillful enough to resolve the issue.

Troubleshooting Guide

Now that you have become familiar with the reasons, it is time to shed some light on the troubleshooting guide as well. Make sure to go through this section thoroughly.

1. Clogged Filters

It is very obvious that the filters present in the washer become clogged due to continuous usage. Materials including lint, particles, debris and even coins can block the filters badly. As a result, the spinner won’t be able to drain out the waste water properly and perform proper spinning.

Solution

Check the filters carefully and remove possible blockages and obstructions (if found).

2. Blocked Drain Hose

One thing that you should know about the drain hose is that it should be perfectly aligned and should be kinks-free. The water will not drain properly if there are kinks present. If the overall drainage system of your household is clogged then it can also become the issue.

Solution

Inspect the drain hose properly and look for possible kinks. If you find these kinks then make sure to remove them as soon as possible. Moreover, check the overall drainage system as well for clogging.

3. Unbalanced Load

Another important thing to consider is that the load should be balanced and according to the capacity. If this isn’t the case then water as well as heat distribution will not be even. Some clothes might receive more heat and less water and vice versa.

Solution

Make sure to arrange the laundry in a balanced way. Run a test cycle and check whether the spinning is working properly or not.

4. Faulty Water Level Control Switch

Even for spinning, it is important for you to put some water in the tub. But you shouldn’t overflow the water, there is a specific amount that should be used. To overcome this confusion, you can always use a water level control switch. Its purpose is to inform you regarding how much water is to be added. In case it becomes faulty, then you will either end up adding too much water or too little water in the tub.

Solution

Check the water level switch carefully. If it has become faulty then you need to make a quick replacement for it.

5. Faulty Lid Switch

A lid switch is present because it informs regarding the proper closing of the washer door. If the washer door is not closed properly then as a result the spinning will not be done. You will have to see wet clothes at the end of the cycle. It will become difficult for you to proceed further without resolving this issue first.

Solution

The only solution to this problem is to swap out the lid switch.

6. Damaged Spin Belt

You need to first find the spin belt by using the user manual. Once found, check whether it has become faulty or not. If it is found faulty then of course you will end up with wet clothes at the end of the cycle. Inspect the belt by opening the top-side panel of your washer.

Solution

On checking if you find the spin belt to be faulty then make sure to have it replaced with a compatible model.

7. Faulty Motor Control Board

Control board is considered the brain of a washer. If it becomes faulty then other parts will also not work due to disturbed communication. Consequently, the washer will not work as intended.

Solution

Thoroughly check the control board first, if you see any loose wire connections or burned parts then have them fixed as soon as possible. If the issue still exists then replace the control board with a new one.

8. Damaged Clutch

Clutch in the washer is used to rotate the drum properly. In case it becomes damaged then the drum won’t be able to rotate properly. As a result, the spinner will not work. Run a test wash cycle and check whether the drum rotates properly or not.

Solution

Replace the old clutch with a new one.

9. Faulty Rotor Position Sensor

Presence of a faulty rotor position sensor means that the washer will not be able to sense. Consequently, the washer will not enter the spin cycle.

Solution

Check the rotor position sensor first and refer to your manual. If the sensor is faulty then get it replaced with a new one.

10. Bad Drive Motor

The sole purpose of your drive motor is that it rotates the drum during the spin cycle. In case it becomes faulty then the rotation will not be done and as a result spinning will not take place.

Solution

If you come across the humming sound of the motor then it means all is good otherwise you will have to consider a replacement.

Wrap Up:
